What is a Notarition

A notarization on a document certifies that the person whose signature is entered on the document personally appeared before the notary, established his or her identity, and personally signed the document in the presence of the notary. It is a three-part process, performed by a Notary Public, that includes of vetting, certifying and record-keeping. Notarizations are sometimes referred to as "notarial acts."

Through the process of notarization, Notaries deter fraud and establish that the signer knows what document they are signing. Notaries also ensure the signer is a willing participant in the signing transaction.
